On Christmas Eve 2003, Steven Jackson gave Oregon State fans one final gift before heading to the NFL. In his last game as a Beaver, Jackson amassed 200 total yards (149 rushing) and five touchdowns in OSU's 55-14 Las Vegas Bowl win over New Mexico. The gift for Jackson was that he got to end this part of his football journey where everything started:

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Steven Jackson is a local legend. He starred at Eldorado High School, running for 6,396 yards and 81 touchdowns. He was underrecruited, which led to him going to Oregon State. His subsequent success in Corvallis, and then the NFL, is what made made recruiters start taking Sin City/Nevada talent seriously. Half-a-century later, Vegas is stocked with high-level FBS players who disperse throughout the country every recruiting cycle. Jackson was the catalyst for that, and with good reason.
