Peter Warrick is the first college football player I can remember being wowed by as a kid. Every time he touched the ball, it felt like he was on a different plane of existence than the other 21 players he shared the field with. He was a superhero in garnet and gold, and the No. 9 on the front of his jersey might as well have been an 'S.' Everything about Warrick was cool, right down to the way he would high-step into the endzone:

If you ask Florida State fans โ€“or any other college football fan who watched him during that eraโ€“ to describe Warrick in one word, an overwhelming majority would give you the same answer: Elusive.

Florida State had a comically long list of all-time great players during the height of the Bobby Bowden era, but none of them captured the nation's eye quite like Warrick. For four seasons, he evaded defenders with a distinctive blend of speed and shiftiness that made him must-see TV every fall Saturday. This guy was so awesome that even Miami fans talk about him with reverence:

Almost 30 years later, watching Warrick torch a defense then saunter into the endzone is just as fun as it was then. His style of play stands the test of time, and was a precursor to the hybrid athletes we see in every wide receiver room around the country (and in the NFL) today. If you're not familiar, I think you'll get the idea after watching this video of all 43 touchdowns he accounted for during his time at Florida State.
